USA Today, BUZZFEED and other national media jump on author’s highly personalized and splashy promotional mailing
We knew when we encountered Ann Stampler’s YA thriller HOW TO DISAPPEAR that we were dealing with a one-of-a-kind novel and author, and her publicity campaign should be equally unique! The novel follows Nicolette Holland, a teen on the run for a murder she may or may not have committed, and Jack Manx, son of a notorious mobster who is tasked with killing her.
To really make sure Ann’s novel stood out, we planned and executed a creative mailing for bookstores and media. The mailing included a copy of the book, a personal note from Ann, and two special envelopes: the “Are You the Hunter?” packet, which included Jack’s “hit info” from the book such as photos of Nicolette, photos of her house, her “driver’s license,” and her personal information, and the “Are You the Hunted?” packet, which included Nicolette’s disguise kit (complete with sunglasses and hair dye!), the fake ID she uses in the book, a road map, and a “room key” to the hotel she uses in the book.
The mailing made a splash with booksellers and media, and we were thrilled to see HOW TO DISAPPEAR featured (more than once!) on Buzzfeed (who tweeted a photo of the mailing!), Bustle, B&N Teen Blog, USA TODAY Happy Ever After, Hypable, Heroes and Heartbreakers, Popcrush, and more! Extra creativity helped ensure that HOW TO DISAPPEAR won’t “disappear” off of the best teen reading lists anytime soon!
